Onyx 30i

The all new Kompac Onyx 30i in-line flood/spot coating system provides a quick and easy way to apply UV/AQ coatings and specialty coatings to a wide variety of substrates, in one single pass on B2 or smaller sized sheets, from text weight to card stock thicknesses.

The Onyx 30i is the perfect solution for medium to large run digital jobs and also perfect for commercial packaging where glue tabs and spot not coated areas are required for boxes, pocket folders and mailers. From paper to plastics and cardstocks, each job will have the visual appeal, lasting durability, protection, rub resistant finish and glueability that your customers expect and require. Whether intricate spot coating or flood coated gloss or soft touch is required, the Onyx 30i can get the job done. All produced in the USA by Kompac, the number one name in coating.

Interface Module

The interface module has been meticulously designed for the Fujifilm J Press 750/720 models and HP Indigo Digital Press systems. The Onyx 30i communicates with the press to adjust speed rate, bypass conditions, online and ready signals. The system recognizes test sheets and misprints and will automatically eject these sheets into an extendable catch tray.

An adjustable vacuum conveyor ensures seamless transport of sheets from the J Press delivery to the Onyx 30i. When coating is not required, the interface can be retracted to provide access to the press delivery. The interface can also be configured with an optional IR dryer for pre-coat drying to improve coating adhesion.

Registration Module

From the interface, printed sheets proceed into the registration module, under constant vacuum control. Here, automated registration ensures precise sheet alignment for intricate spot coat or glue tab jobs. The registration module automatically adjusts to various sheet sizes. Lateral sheet registration can be adjusted on-the-fly for fine adjustments. Following registration, sheets are transferred to the coating station under gripper control throughout the entire coating process, so lightweight substrates are no problem.

Coating Station

The Onyx 30i coating station effortlessly accommodates UV or AQ coatings. The coating unit is interchangeable and can be changed in a matter of minutes with Kompac’s Kwik Change design. The standard coating unit is perfect for high gloss and Satin UV coatings.

The Onyx 30i can also be equipped with the newly Patented Hybrid Anilox Chamber System which is perfect for applying particulate UV/AQ coatings such as soft touch, blister pack, etc. After the coating station sheets pass through optional dual IR dryers before being cured with high intensity adjustable UV. Finally, sheets are conveyed to the high capacity stacker, where they are neatly stacked onto a pallet or dolly.
